In January 2022 a Verified Employee Moderator on Spectrum's community said Spectrum's network supports bridge mode and that it is advisable to put a modem that has built-in routing into bridge mode when adding a new router. The moderator also separated this modem bridge mode from a router's own bridge (access point) mode. A February 2022 reply in another thread confirmed that combination modem/routers are the equipment that can be bridged.

How to set it up

  1. Put the combination unit in bridge mode (the moderator confirms support but gave no steps; none were retrieved from Spectrum's support pages).
  2. Connect your own router to the unit's Ethernet port and set up your network on the router.

Know before you switch

  • Both statements are from 2022 community posts, not a current support article.
  • The moderator warned that mixing up modem bridge mode with a router's access-point mode can cause a total loss of connectivity.
  • Spectrum's current models and how to enable bridging on each were not documented in what we retrieved.

How sure are we?

Confidence is medium. Dated moderator statement from Spectrum's own community; no support article or manual.
